With Halloween only a few days from now, I wanted to find something spooky to read. Teri Polen’s Sarah was a perfect choice. I don’t read a lot of horror stories, but this one kept me turning the pages.
My Review
I purchased Sarah a few months ago but purposely waited until October to read it.
Cain Shannon is a seventeen-year-old high school student who lives with his mother and little sister, Maddie. After his father’s death, the family moved to a newly constructed home because the old one held too many memories.
He is a typical teenager—he enjoys soccer, playing video games, and hanging out with his best friend, Finn.
Life is good until a nightly visitor appears—the ghost of Sarah, a high school student who disappeared several months prior. Cain wants to help her at first, but then she shows her vindicative, malevolent personality. Sarah seeks revenge on the three boys who killed her, and it seems nothing Cain and his friends can do will keep her from achieving her goal.
Although Cain is the protagonist, I also loved his friend, Finn. There is also a bit of humor. Sarah will keep you turning the pages, and then comes a surprise twist at the end. A word of warning—don’t read it at night if you’re afraid of the dark.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable read—perfect for the Halloween season but will creep you out any time of the year.
Sarah is classified as a YA novel, but adults can enjoy it as well. If you’re looking for a well-written page-turning scary story, check it out.
This one is too freaky for me but I do love Teri’s writing!
